Afghanistan Art Week

At Baamdaad – The House of Poetry in Exile, we launched a week-long tribute, not only to art, but to humanity itself: to freedom of expression, to cultural diversity, and to the collective memory of a people whose voices have long been silenced by force.

Through art, we became a voice of protest against bans, against censorship, and against dogmatic ideologies that have robbed us of life, beauty, freedom, and creation. We stood not with weapons but with words, colors, instruments, melodies, and images.

For an entire week, we recited poetry, spoke of art, sang songs, played music, and reminded the world that Afghanistan is not just war and destruction. Afghanistan is the voice of a poet who writes in exile; the hands of a girl who paints in silence; the heart of a musician who dares to play the melody of freedom even in darkness. This week was a week of resistance and resistance against erasure, against silence.

Until freedom, justice, and humanity return to Afghanistan, art remains our tool of struggle. It is not decoration, nor entertainment. Art is our weapon against oppression, against tyranny, against amnesia, and against the normalization of crime.

From all corners of the world, we received messages from artists, poets, writers, and cultural voices. These messages echoed a shared pain, a shared hope, and a shared dream: a free and beautiful Afghanistan.

We held Afghanistan Art Week to remember a homeland where art is forbidden to remind ourselves and the world that art is an inseparable part of Afghanistan’s history, culture, and identity. No force can strip it away. Through this platform, we offered a window of light, sound, color, and voice to those artists who have been silenced or exiled.

Poets and artists from across the globe stood with us with protest poems, messages of solidarity, and defiance of Taliban tyranny and censorship. Together, we reimagined a free Afghanistan.

Baamdaad – The House of Poetry in Exile sincerely thanks each and every one of you who stood with us and lent your voice to Afghanistan Art Week.
